FEATHERED NESTS

Birds just seem to usher in the season of spring, and they brighten a garden whatever the season!  Watching their nesting and feeding as well as listening to their cheerful serenades is a sure  way to get in touch with nature.  Their vibrant,  whimsical chants and songs bring instant beauty to a garden.

“The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings”.

                                                    – J.M. Barrie

Below are a few images from my garden.

  A few weeks ago while visiting in north Mississippi, I had the opportunity to do a little bird watching in Jean and Bill Peeples backyard.  They have been neighbors and friends to my family for over thirty years.  And you couldn’t find a lovelier couple!  They spend hours just watching the birds in their yard, and describe their backyard as a bird sanctuary.  And, I will have to agree!  Here are a few pictures I wanted to share:

A Dothan friend, Marie Stone, who was featured in this post:  ( https://beautifulgardener.wordpress.com/2013/03/29/a-friends-treasured-orchids/)   is also  an avid bird enthusiast.  She recently took these absolutely gorgeous pictures of a nest of Purple Finches that are near her front door.  She chronicles their progress over the past three weeks or so. Truly these are magazine worthy!

Marie’s extensive backyard is filled with numerous bird houses.  These functional and attractive houses (made locally) open from the side, making them easy to clean out and observe new bird’s nests.

And what a surprise when we opened this one:  a nest of the most adorable flying squirrels ever! Her backyard is truly a nature sanctuary…

and under His wings you will find refuge;

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
